Why Believe in the Existence of God
Today, we are beginning a new worship series titled “Why?”. We start this series asking the question, “Why believe in the existence of God?”
For millennia it was just assumed that everyone believed in God. Only the rare person was an atheist or an agnostic. Most people accepted that there was a God.
Even for people who do believe God exists, the majority of them don’t believe it profoundly. What I mean is that their belief in God doesn’t make much of a difference in their lives. They believe in God when they are asked, but they don’t think about it much. They have never really owned it for themselves. It is just sort of a belief that’s always been there. They’ve never thought through it and wrestled with the reasons to belief God exists. A belief that has just always been there doesn’t typically go very deep. But when a belief must be thought through and wrestled with, the conclusion tends to be more developed and passionate.
