Today’s gospel story is one that most of us know, so I’m not going to go through all the details of it. Rather, I want us to focus on the six – 30-gallon jars of water that Jesus turned into wine. These jars were used for the ritual washing your face and hands before worship and prayer.

In the Gospel of John, the miracles of Jesus are always called signs. John wants us to understand that Jesus didn’t perform miracles for the sake of a particular moment in time like saving a family from embarrassment at a wedding because they ran out of wine. Jesus’ miracles were signs of something more. Something that we need to recognize and respond accordingly.
