“Ask, Seek, Knock”
This week, we conclude our two-part look at Jesus’ words on judging found in Matthew 7:1-12.
As we grow in our Christian faith, we become eager to help others experience the blessings and grace of Christ in their lives. We want to help people get the speck out of their eye. However, before we can remove the speck from someone else’s eye, we must learn how to remove the plank from our eye.
Learning how to remove the plank begins with the practice of self-examination. Even though self-examination sounds like something we do on your own, it is really about community, accountability, and relationships.
During self-examination, we consult God and other people asking them to reveal any blind spots – prejudices, pre-conceptions, and life experiences that may color the way we view people. After self-examination with the consultation of others confirms the foreign substance in our eye, we need to take it out by confession.
